Sod Off!

Well, Goose (the nickname for our house--the model name is Spruce, so his name is Goose as in Spruce Goose), is almost done! Today, they put the yard in--sod and all! We have our final walkthrough on Thursday at 11 a.m. and go to closing at 12:30 p.m. There are still a few things that need to be done on the house, but hopefully everything will go smoothly.

Steve is stuck at work--some coding issues came up and its 9:30 p.m. and he's still there. Hopefully he'll be home within the next hour. Poor Steve.

Our Garden Plan...

Well, one day until closing. We offically own our house tomorrow afternoon. We'll have a final walkthrough at 11 a.m. and then head to closing at 12:30 p.m. After that, it's house painting time!!!!!

Last night, we visited the house and they have installed 3 trees (2 Autumn Blaze Maples and a Spring Snow Crabapple) in the front yard and 15 shrubs. We also have our rock in our front yard. They will install the sod today. It was too dark to take pictures, so we'll have to take them tonight.

We are both very excited! Just can't wait!!!!

Here is our preliminary backyard plan. We are still awaiting approval on the deck and will need to submit our landscaping plan. We might change trees or the placement of shrubs, but this is the basic idea: We will have rock lining the perimeter of the house and will have around 8 shrubs (right now, we're looking at lilac bushes and daphne shurbs, a hearty, white flowering shrub). We were looking at installing two spring snow crabapples, but we might change that to a different tree.

A Big Day and an even BIGGER week!

Hello,

Thus begins a week that will go down in history. Well at least as far as Hannah and I are concerned. Today we meet with our builder for our walk through of the house. We're both equal part nervous and equal part excited. Han may be more nervous than I am, but together we'll be just fine.

If things go well we'll be closing on Thursday morning. There are really only minor things left to do in the house. Nothing that's a deal breaker. There are things that I can't fix that I hope they fix, but we'll just have to see what happens by Thursday.

The Two Elvi

The Elvis glass pictures are from a month or so ago—we were having a poker night and in the spirit of Las Vegas, I whipped out my Elvis glasses. These were won at Dave and Buster’s after I tore it up on the skee ball. Of course, no skee ball experience will ever compare to Scott and Cayce’s rehearsal dinner where I won 1,000 tickets after winning the skee-ball jackpot. That was truly my crowning moment.

Paint Colors

Each row represents colors to be used in different rooms:
Top Row (Left to Right): 1.) Family Room Color 2.) Accent for Family Room Color, Laundry Room, Powder Bathroom

Second Row: 1.) Formal Living Room 2.)Guest Bathroom

Third Row: This row are the loft colors. The left color will be on the bottom half of the room, the right color will be on the top. We’ll separate the two colors with a piece of molding.

Fourth Row: These are the master bedroom colors. The walls will be covered in brown, except for an accent wall, which will have the blue used in a stripe pattern. The master bath will use the blue color as a main color and the brown for any accents.

Ah..the Power....the Power!!!

A very exciting trip to the house last night...we have electricity! They installed all of our lights and they are functioning!! They installed all the cabinets, should finish the countertops, installed the potties, sinks, and finished the brick. Only 15 days left! We bought some paint supplies last night at Home Depot and found a patio set we really like. We will probably wait to buy it until we open our Home Depot card to buy the decking material. We can get 10% that way. Here's a pic: So, the excitment continues!!!!

Free Slushie Day at 7-11

Oh---Very exciting news--Today is Free Slushie Day at 7-11. (I totally just got the fact that today is 7-11-05, and that's why they are givig out free slushies). Anyhoo, visit your local 7-11 to get a free slushie to celebrate the anniversary of the Slushie.

For those health concious people, including myself, they have a Diet Pepsi Slushie that is great and 0 calories and a Crystal Light Slushie that is 4 calories per 10 oz., or something miniscul like that.

Another One Bites the Dust…

Well, another weekend has come and gone. We are now 17 days away from the closing of the house, which is very exciting. Pretty soon, it will be under 2 weeks!

This weekend was a relatively calm one for the two of us. Lately, we’ve been going pretty non-stop, so when we found ourselves on Sunday with a short to-do list, we were happy to just relax.

Friday night, we hit the greens and went out for my second round of golf ever. I did marginally better than last time but Steve was on fire. He made par on 3 of the 9 holes and made what he called his best putt ever. We didn’t go golfing the rest of the weekend because it was too hot, but I’m sure we’ll be out again this weekend. Golf is pretty much the only sport I currently dig.

Saturday, we went to our WW meeting with Randy and Kenji. Randy, by the way, lost 9.8 pounds this week, bringing him to 74 total. The man is on fire! Afterward, Steve and I were going to meet a painter at the house to give us a bid on painting the formal living room, but his car ‘overheated’ and he couldn’t come. Don’t know if that’s the truth, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. We went by the house anyway and no work had been done since the workweek. In fact, nothing got done on the house at all this weekend, which was disappointing. We’ve been spoiled by so much action recently that no action is a major bummer.

Saturday night, we went to go see Batman Begins with Randy at quite possibly one of the scariest movie theatres I've ever patronized. When we pulled in at 7 p.m. to see the movie, the place was already teeming with tons of cops to patrol the crowds. When we left, it was a zoo of underage kids, scary adults and even more cops. Regardless, the movie was excellent and really entertaining. Christian Bale wasn't too shabby looking either. (Steve is still teasing me because at one point in the movie, Christian walks into a room in a 3 piece suit and I literally gasped beacuse he looked so handsome! hahaha) I give it two thumbs up!

Sunday was a bit more of a lazy day…slept in late, went to the pool for a couple hours (with our spf 36 sunblock, of course), went to the house, went grocery shopping and ate BBQ. This was our first taste testing of local BBQ joints for potential wedding caterers. While we found Dickey’s BBQ to be on the whole a pleasant dining experience, the beans and chicken were lacking. We’ll continue our search for Denver’s best BBQ to serve to our wedding guests!

Oh, we also bought a rocking chair loveseat for our front porch on Sunday. I think it’s freaking adorable and love it! Thanks to Steve for indulging my love of front porches and rocking chairs. 20 days and counting....

Hello All,

I'm taking over blogging duties on this post. I know how much everyone likes Hannah's post, but I guess you'll just have to put up with me for once.

The house is moving right along. We were pleased to see a roof on monday, cabinets on tuesday, flooring on wednesday, and countertops on thursday. The bricking of the outside still continues, but I think that will all be done by the end of the weekend. We are 20 days away from the close and I don't think either of us could get any more excited.

It was a very exciting Wednesday night out at the house. We met 2 sets of neighbors. Hannah is good with names I'm not. So I don't remember. But they were both very nice. I think our cul-de-sac will be the best!!!

oooh, they are also staking out the two lots beside our house and I think they'll begin digging the holes soon. We're not looking forward to having the construction of houses on either side of us, but we'll just have to deal.

We also submitted the specs of our grand and glorious deck to the home owners association this week. We will be patiently awaiting word from them. I'm hopeful that everything goes smoothly and that we can being deck building as soon as possible.



Having hard luck trying to find a painter to paint the formal living room. Since Hannah and I decided not to do it for fear of death or serious injury we'll have to continue the search. We'll be meeting with a painter tomorrow after our ww meeting. Hope that goes well.

Plans for the upcoming weekend include our weight watcher meeting, golfing, seeing the house, possibly going to see a movie with Randall, and other things we've not thought of yet.

Hannah has become quite the golf enthusiast. Yes, can you believe it? She totally enjoying the sport and I think she has quite the potential. On her first trip she did very well. I was horrible for the first few years, so I think she's got a great head start. I will definitely enjoy golfing with her. And I hope she continues to enjoy the sport. It can be a frustrating sport at times, so we'll see how her 2nd outing goes.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!

Today is an exciting day for us—it’s our 1 year “Pre-versary.” Exactly one year from today, we’ll be getting married! That is just crazy and very exciting. Tonight, we plan to go out to the wedding site and pack a picnic lunch, take lawn chairs and watch the sunset. Not only is this gushy and romantic, but practical because we will be able to pick out the time of evening we want to have the wedding (trying to find a time when it’s still light out, but not when the sun is so intense that it will incinerate our guests.)

Our lives have changed so much from a year ago. One year ago this weekend, Mom and Dad (God Bless Them!) were helping me move across the country. Two cars, one U-haul and one terribly frightened cat were traveling across Kansas to the mountains. One year later, I still miss my family and friends in Missouri, but am happy for the courage it took to make this big leap in my life. I did the same thing (minus Steve!) when I moved to Kansas City after college and made wonderful friends, had fantastic experiences, learned a great deal about myself and met the love of my life. I know that being in this new city will afford us the same opportunities to grow, learn and experience life. By this time next year, our live will look different from now. We’ll be married, in our own home and maybe have even adopted a dog. :) There will be many changes in the next year to come, and it’s all really quite wonderful.

On to house news (our current obsession!), check out www.top5ive.com for updated house pictures. Only 27 days until we are home owners! They are moving and grooving on the house building. We now have a painted exterior, are in progress with brick on the exterior and paint on the interior. They are doing things like adding molding and interior doors. We have been to the house 3 nights this week!

This weekend, we plan on having friends over for a poker night on Saturday, which should be fun. We will BBQ and play penny and nickel poker. We might go golfing on Saturday—if this happens, I will be renting a golf cart to drive. I’ve wanted to drive a golf cart since a summer trip in 8th grade to Myrtle Beach. Hopefully the fellas will let me take the wheel! J We’ll probably have another BBQ with Randy or Kenji for the actual 4th Holiday. We might go out to the library near the house to watch fireworks—it’s got a great view of the city.
